Japan‑U.S. Strategic Investment!

Zajednička deklaracija, koju su izdale vlade Japana i Sjedinjenih Država, slavi uspješnu provedbu prve serije projekata najavljenih 17. veljače 2026. i uvodi drugu, još ambiciozniju seriju ulaganja. Opseg i brzina ulaganja signaliziraju dugoročnu predanost koja nadilazi kratkoročnu politiku, s ciljem ostvarivanja trajnog gospodarskog rasta i međusobnog prosperiteta u nadolazećim desetljećima.

Joint Announcement on the Japan-U.S. Strategic Investment
1. On the occasion of the Summit Meeting between Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae and President Donald J. TRUMP in Washington, D.C. on March 19, 2026, the Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America welcome the steady progress in the implementation of the FIRST batch of projects (*) under the Japan-U.S. Strategic Investment, which were announced on February 17, 2026.
(*) First batch of projects announced on February 17 (U.S. EST)
– Manufacturing project for industrial synthetic diamonds (Estimated amount: approximately 600 million USD)
– U.S. crude oil export infrastructure project (Estimated amount: approximately 2.1 billion USD)
– Natural gas generation project (Estimated amount: approximately 33.3 billion USD)
2. The two Governments are pleased to make a NEW announcement on a SECOND batch of projects :
– The construction of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) by GE Vernova Hitachi in Tennessee and Alabama (Estimated amount: up to 40 billion USD)
– The construction of Natural Gas Generation facilities in Pennsylvania (Estimated amount: up to 17 billion USD)
-The construction of Natural Gas Generation facilities in Texas (Estimated amount: up to 16 billion USD)
The groundbreaking commercial deployment of the advanced SMRs in the U.S. will serve as a tremendous next-generation stable power source, stabilizing electricity prices for American people and strengthening the Japan-U.S. leadership in global technological competition. The two natural gas generation facilities will play a critical role in meeting the rapidly growing electricity demand and in reinforcing Japan-U.S. cooperation in building supply chain in important strategic areas of economic security. The offtake from these projects will include supplying power to co-located data centers.
The two Governments intend to further work together faithfully and swiftly on the details of these vital projects in a coordinated manner, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding dated September 4, 2025. The U.S. Government is committed to expediting its necessary regulatory processes, subject to applicable laws.
3. Additionally, the two Governments are working on significant promising projects for consideration, including in the areas of SMRs, large-scale nuclear reactors, and crude oil infrastructure to increase the export to Japan, under the Japan-U.S. Strategic Investment. They look forward to proceeding with the Consultation Committee process in line with the Memorandum of Understanding dated September 4, 2025.
4. Those projects possess significant potential in ensuring economic security and accelerating economic growth of both countries, thereby paving the way for a New Golden Age of the ever-growing Japan-U.S. Alliance. The two Governments renew their commitments to supporting further business efforts that contribute to strengthening critical supply chains in both countries going forward.
