Dok se nacija zaustavlja u ozbiljnom razmišljanju, zajednice diljem Sjedinjenih Američkih Država danas su se okupile kako bi obilježile duboku tragediju koja je pogodila hrabru američku naciju. Prošlo je dvadeset i pet godina od tragičnih događaja 11. rujna 2001., dana koji je zauvijek promijenio tijek povijesti, ali je na kraju pokazao neuništivu otpornost američkog naroda.
Govoreći u Pentagonu tijekom obilježavanja 25. godišnjice, američki predsjednik Donald J. Trump osvrnuo se na duboko putovanje proteklih 25 godina. Naglašavajući snagu nacije, istaknuo je kako su kušnje prošlosti samo ojačale karakter Sjedinjenih Država.
“11. rujna podsjetio nas je na strašnu moć mržnje. Proteklih 25 godina pokazalo nam je još moćniji duh Amerike da izdrži i prevlada, i da pobijedi”, rekao je predsjednik Trump. Dodao je ohrabrujuću poruku za budućnost: “A danas je naša zemlja jača nego ikad prije. Nikada nije bila snažnija nego što je sada.”
Twenty-five years. Count them on the stones of Shanksville, in the quiet hollows of Manhattan, against the limestone ribs of the Pentagon.
“Remember how it began? A morning so fragile, so blue, skies innocent of what was coming. Then the tear in the fabric. The towers kissed by fire, the smoke rising like a dark prayer from the heart of our busiest streets.
And you, you remember where you stood. We were all New Yorkers in the ash, we were all Americans in the shock,
hand in hand, stranger to stranger, learning the heavy price of freedom and the fierce, sudden weight of each other.
The hate was a terrible power, yes. It brought steel down to dust. It broke what human hands had built. But look at what it missed.
It could not touch the fire in the heart. It could not dim the goodness nested deep in the American spirit. Twenty-five years later, through the wars, through the watch, through the shadows cast by old and new threats, we stand here,
stronger than we have ever been before.
Can you hear the echo of the sirens? Can you see the boots of the first responders running toward the dark, never asking why, only asking who needs saving? Salute them.
Salute the quiet guardians keeping watch tonight, keeping the nuclear fire from the hands of terror, holding the line across oceans so that our children can sleep beneath an open sky.
We do not have a choice, not really. There is only vigilance. There is only the vow, repeated softly, spoken firmly,
passed down like a legacy in stone: We will never, ever forget.
Not in twenty-five years. Not in a hundred. When future generations walk these hallowed grounds, they will find a nation still unyielding. They will find us, remembering the fallen, cherishing the memory, protecting this house like never before.
