A Message of Freedom Across the Sea! Happy Fourth of July to American Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne

A Message of Freedom Across the Sea! Happy Fourth of July to American Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne

Dok sjedimo ovdje u sunčanoj Hrvatskoj, miris slanog zraka i nježni ritam Mediterana podsjećaju nas koliko je naš svijet zapravo velik i lijep. Ipak, čak i tisućama milja udaljeni od srca Sjedinjenih Država, osjećamo duboku povezanost s energijom ovog dana. Danas šaljem naše najtoplije, najiskrenije pozdrave našoj braći i sestrama preko Atlantika.

Dok dižemo čašu iz našeg doma u vaš, želim uputiti posebno čestitanje povodom “Fourth of July” Dana neovisnosti i “250 Freedom” obljetnice kongresnici SAD-a Beth Van Duyne.

Kongresu.

Congresswoman Van Duyne’s Weekly Update
Image

Washington, D.C. – Last Saturday, I was honored to recognize Mayor William D. Tate of Grapevine on his Golden Jubilee, joining the celebration for his 50 years of service to our community.

As one of the longest-serving mayors in the entire country, his legacy is a testament to what steady, dedicated leadership can accomplish. It is through local leaders like Mayor Tate that our community stays strong, and I’m grateful for his decades of service to the people of Grapevine.

That evening I had the chance to watch Argentina take on Jordan in a fun match at Dallas Stadium with a couple of Argentinian greats, Esteban Cambiasso and Ezequiel Lavezzi!

On Monday, H.R. 8873, the Recover COVID Unemployment Fraud in Banks Act officially passed the House by unanimous consent.

Since joining the Ways and Means Committee, we have remained laser-focused on holding fraudsters accountable for pandemic-era unemployment fraud and strengthening the unemployment program for those who truly need it.

You can watch my floor remarks by clicking here. You can read more in my Work of the Week.

That evening I had the chance to testify in front of the House Rules Committee to talk about two Ways and Means bills, including my bill, H. Res. 1383 – Commemorating the one-year anniversary of the enactment of the Working Families Tax Cuts. You can click here or on the image below to watch my opening statement.

Tuesday morning, I joined Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and Chairwoman Lisa McClain for a press conference talking about the historic week ahead with the 250th birthday of America, and the one-year anniversary of the Working Families Tax Cuts.

The bill we passed last year is restoring hope, rewarding work, and unleashing the extraordinary potential of the American spirit. That is the promise we made, the fight we won, and the future we are delivering for every working family in this great nation. Click here or on the photo below to watch my speech.

We had a full Ways and Means Committee Hearing on the growing business of sports, taking a more in-depth look at tax incentives pushing professional sports teams to prioritize profits at the expense of communities and fans. You can watch my questions for the witnesses here.

That evening I was able to join some of my House Republican colleagues at the White House Rose Garden to celebrate America’s 250th birthday! Thank you to President Trump for having us!

On Wednesday, I joined my Ways and Means colleagues for a full committee markup, where we advanced seven bills out of committee that will strengthen taxpayer rights, improve customer service at the IRS, and increase transparency around tax-exempt hospitals.

Thank you to Club for Growth for my Defender of Economic Freedom Award.

It is a privilege to represent the great people of Texas-24 and fight for policies that lower taxes, shrink our government spending, and slash burdensome regulations.

Thursday I had a chance to visit the Great American State Fair ahead of all of America 250 festivities this weekend! The Texas booth is awesome, and features a Dallas icon, Big Tex!

That evening I was at the Heritage 250 Celebration at Mount Vernon. It was a fantastic evening celebrating the remarkable story of our nation where America’s first president lived and led.

It was great catching up with Carroll ISD Vice President Andrew Yeager and visiting with Speaker Mike Johnson, but one of the highlights was spending time with Coach Joe Kennedy. Joe’s courage in standing firm for his faith and constitutional freedoms inspired Americans across the country, and it was great to celebrate this milestone with him at such a fitting place in our nation’s history.

Tomorrow, we celebrate the 250th birthday of our great nation, and I hope all of you in Texas-24 have a very safe and wonderful Fourth of July!
ImageThis Fourth of July also marks the 1-year anniversary of the Working Families Tax Cuts. Republicans in Congress delivered no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, new senior deductions, an expanded child tax credit, and Trump Accounts, first-of-their-kind savings accounts.

For North Texas families, that’s real relief now and a head start for the next generation.

Texas-24 Work of the Week

This week, the House unanimously passed my bipartisan legislation, the Recover COVID Unemployment Fraud in Banks Act. This is a critical step toward recovering more than $1 billion in taxpayer funds lost to COVID-era unemployment fraud.

I’m hopeful for swift bipartisan passage in the Senate, as it is not too late to recover these funds, but as a Congress we must act.
